NINAGAWA Mika Exhibition with EiM “Dancing with Shadows in the Light” is being held at the Nanjo Art Museum in Nanjo, Okinawa, from November 27, 2024 to May 30, 2025.

Photographer and film director NINAGAWA Mika and creative team EiM will exhibit works based on the theme of light and shadow found in the nature and landscape of Okinawa.

Here are some highlights of the Nanjo Art Museum and the exhibition, as well as a special tour to help you enjoy the exhibition even more!

Visit the Nanjo Art Museum, a spectacular art spot!

Did you know that there is an undiscovered art spot with a spectacular view in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture?

Adjacent to 斎場御嶽(Seifautaki), the largest sacred site of the Ryukyu Kingdom, the Nanjo Art Museum is located in a beautiful place overlooking the spectacular ocean and green forest.

The museum is housed in a building that was once used as a finishing school for teaching women culture, cooking, sewing, etc. The kitchen, living room, and bedrooms are used as exhibition rooms.

This is in keeping with the museum's concept of capturing the beauty hidden in everyday life.

The “Hanyama Cafe” attached to the museum offers a panoramic view of the ocean, sky, and greenery.

The museum itself is as beautiful as a work of art, making it an attractive place to take unique art photos!

Indulge in the world of NINAGAWA Mika, where light and shadow intersect

Mika Ninagawa, a photographer and film director, is an artist with many fans for her unique sense of color and overwhelming power of expression.

For this exhibition, NINAGAWA visited Okinawa many times to take photographs. She also took her first attempt at underwater photography!

The light and shadows of nature, and the imagination of life and death, can be felt in his artworks.

This beautiful and surprising exhibition space was created in collaboration with the creative team EiM.

Led by data scientist MIYATA Hiroaki, set designers, lighting directors, music directors, video director-creators, and other specialists in various fields worked with Ninagawa on this exhibition.

The installation, which utilizes the sunlight streaming into the exhibition space and the wind blowing through the garden, takes us on an extraordinary journey.

In a space where the movement of light and shadow changes constantly, visitors themselves become part of the artworks and experience NINAGAWA's world!
