Get in touch with Nintendo's origins at "Marufukuro".Have a restful moment at the hotel directed by ANDO Tadao.

In 2022, the hotel "Marufukuro" opened in the former headquarters building of Japan's leading video game manufacturer "Nintendo" in Kagiya-cho, Kyoto, where the company was founded. The hotel is gaining popularity for its charming appearance steeped in culture and history.

The retro Art Deco exterior and the new building by ANDO Tadao are must see.

Marufukuro is a much talked-about hotel that utilizes Nintendo's former headquarters building ( built in the 1930s). It is named after the trade name of Nintendo's former card maker, Marufuku. The building is in the Art Deco style popular in the early Showa period, with impressive geometric motifs. Besides the calm atmosphere of the existing building, there is also a new building designed and directed by world-renowned architect ANDO Tadao, which has a bright appearance with a great deal of outside light. Mr Ando supervised the design of the new building as well as the building as a whole.

Many of the 18 rooms have nostalgic interiors based on the moss green color tone that symbolizes Nintendo's former premises, allowing guests to enjoy the atmosphere of the company's founding period. The hotel also features a variety of artworks by renowned artists on display throughout the building, which is also a highlight.

Superior King, formerly used as a guest room. The fireplace has been retained as a design feature.

The dining lounge also features works by KUSAMA Yayoi.

The Library, located in the museum, embodies Nintendo's history and culture. Visitors to this space will be able to experience Nintendo's origins through carefully selected books, participatory artworks inspired by Hanafuda (Japanese playing cards) and the original Family Computer.

There are also two lounges in the museum: the Guest Lounge and the Dining Lounge. In the Guest Lounge, visitors can enjoy the world view of Nintendo's former head office building, while in the Dining Lounge they can enjoy various artworks by contemporary artist KUSAMA Yayoi and others, including those by ANDO Tadao. Drinks are always available in the lounge, and light snacks and evening meals can be ordered in the dining lounge.
