KYOTO PREFECTURAL INSHO-DOMOTO MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

KYOTO PREFECTURAL INSHO-DOMOTO MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS is located in Kita-ku, Kyoto. Located along "Kinukake-no-michi", a sightseeing road that leads to three World Heritage sites Kinkakuji Temple, Ryoanji Temple, and Ninnaji Temple, visitors will see a building resembling a work of art with white as its base color amidst the surrounding lush greenery.

This museum collects the artworks of DOMOTO Insho, a Japanese-style painter born in Kyoto and active from the Taisho to Showa periods. In 1966, the museum was founded by Domoto Insho himself as the Domoto Museum of Art. In 1991, the building and artworks were donated to Kyoto Prefecture, and in 1992, the museum opened as the KYOTO PREFECTURAL INSHO-DOMOTO MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS which it remains today.

In the exhibition rooms, visitors can view artworks by DOMOTO Insho as the exhibits change, and during special exhibitions, they can also view artworks by artists who have been featured in the project. The building, with its elegant decoration, was also designed by DOMOTO Insho. The architectural design was inspired by the famous museums and palaces he visited during his twice trips to Europe postwar, as well as museums of contemporary artists, such as the Picasso Museum. The numerous sketches he left behind to design the wall decorations and the decorative parts of the building reveal the artist's passion for creating unique museum spaces.

In addition to the artworks, the INSHO-DOMOTO MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS allows visitors to feel the artist's breath through the architecture. Visit the museum to enjoy an art space filled with a unique worldview.
