Kagairo Kitahama Honten, a traditional Japanese ryotei restaurant established in 1830Enjoy Japanese cuisine and art dining in a historical setting

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

Kagairo Kitahama Main Restaurant, located in Kitahama, Chuo-ku, Osaka City, was established in 1868. It is also known as the historical site of the "Osaka Conference" held by the former leaders of the revolution during the time of the Meiji Restoration, which laid the foundation for the constitutional system. The name "Hanagairo" was given by Kido Takayoshi (Katsura Kogoro) in celebration of the success of the Osaka Conference.

The Japanese cuisine, which has inherited the traditional techniques from the time the restaurant was founded, is truly a taste of Kamigata. You can enjoy carefully prepared dishes such as soups made with the best soup stock and sashimi made with the freshest seasonal ingredients.

Kagairo Kitahama main restaurant is a long-established ryotei with a history and tradition, but in recent years has become a place where one can enjoy a fusion of new sensitivities.

“Study: Osaka Kansai International Art Festival," which has been held since 2022, frequently serves as a venue for this event, and has collaborated with artist MIyake Mai and OHMIYA Ellie, who is active as a painter and writer in a wide range of fields. Besides exhibiting works of art, a limited menu was co-created, and an art dining experience was provided for guests to enjoy their meals while experiencing art.

Although ryotei restaurants give the impression of being difficult to enter casually, the restaurant also holds lectures and talk events during lunchtime and on Saturdays, in the hope that people will feel at home and enjoy themselves in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
